The Less Artists More Condos series from Famous Class has been underway for a while now, pulling in artists such as Future Islands, A Place to Bury Strangers, Cass McCombs, and Xiu Xiu to name a few. The purpose of the project is to raise funds for the Ariel Panero Memorial Fund at VH1’s Save the Music - so it’s an easy decision to support such a solid effort when you’re being rewarded with such great music from so many talented artists. The most recent split 7” comes from Lower Dens and Horse Lords. The new track from Lower Dens is called “Non Grata” and it’s another reminded of why that band is one of the most interesting and excited bands working today. “Non Grata” is a shadowy bit of psych rock that creeps in on a pulsating electro beat and worms it’s way into your ear with Jana Hunter's eerie, yet infectious vocal melody (think Trish Keenan singing a lullaby and you’re almost there). Following up the band’s killer 2012 album “Nootropics” is not going to be an easy feat, but if “Non Grata” is where the band is heading, then I’m sure it’s going to be an incredible listen. Highest recommendation.
