THE HUM OF FADING LIGHTS /// A P|M|W Mixtape
It’s been a strange couple of weeks in my world, and instead of loading up a traditional podcast featuring hot new blog-buzzed jams, I thought that I would share a mixtape that has been keeping me company as of late. It’s a collection of mostly older tracks, all adhering to a particular late-night-drive-type-vibe. Something for the lonely and dark nights spent on dusty highways, or walks through your sleeping neighborhood, or whatever nocturnal adventures you have planned for yourself. Whatever the case, I promise that it will sound a hundred times better at night.
Below you will find links to multiple download sources for the collection (zip file), as well as a longplay mix version (all one track via Soundcloud). Please share/reblog with others if you like what you hear and or support any and all artists that strike your interest. Stream or download as you wish.

RADIO SLOW RIOT // Episode Nine (2.21.12)
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for me and that’s certainly gone and cut into my podcasting time, not to mention the recent issue with Mediafire which caused all back catalog hosting to disappear (remedy coming soon) and it’s affect on free time. However, I managed to squeeze a mixtape/podcast out this week with some of the more exciting releases in the past couple of weeks, as well as a couple of choice older gems. I kept my intros light to maintain a solid vibe and flow and so I won’t drag it out here any further.
Please don’t be afraid to share/reblog with others and or support any and all artists that strike your interest. Stream or download as you wish. Thanks for listening to Radio Slow Riot.

THE SOUNDS OF SHADOWS // The Afterglow :: Episode 52
It’s been a while since I’ve visited these waters, so I thought it was time to break out a new Afterglow Mixtape. This time around I’ve stuck closely to newer tracks and each of those tend to stick to sounds containing darker electronics, shoegaze, post-punk, or dream pop. Fairly close to the usual Afterglows, but think of this one as a little bit darker and sometimes even a little more ominous for the later months of the year. Of course, that’s not everything. There’s also a few contemplative dream pop gems mixed it to keep things from being another Halloween Mixtape without the direct holiday association.
So, without further ado, this is The Sounds of Shadows, and as usual with these Afterglow Mixtapes, they’re best heard at night. Let it soundtrack you as you wish, but please enjoy the listen and support the acts that catch your attention.

THE DIMMING LIGHTS // The Afterglow : Episode 51
With the gap in time between each Afterglow mixtape growing, I’ve decided to try and make each one stand out as it’s own, by sticking to a more cohesive theme each time out. Sometimes it might be more lo-fi rock sounds, others might lean toward the ambient or chillwave, this one is more in the direction of darker, haunting sounds. It starts upbeat enough but works its way into more of a night atmosphere and takes the sounds into more of a dark synth pop and dream pop vibe.
This mix is comprised of newer tracks from all over the indie world and this time around the male/female vocals duties are pretty much split, which is a big change, as these are usually inadvertently male dominated. So, without further ado, this is The Dimming Lights, and as usual with these Afterglow Mixtapes, they’re best heard at night. Let it soundtrack you as you wish, but please enjoy the listen and support the acts that catch your attention.

THE AFTERGLOW // EPISODE 50 :: A P|M|W Mixtape
After a few months away from The Afterglow name, I just figured it was time to return to the place it started for the fiftieth episode (that includes all previous Afterglows and Perfect|Midnight|World episodes). I decided against recording this episode as a podcast and instead created a Desert Island Mixtape podcast that will go up a little later. In the meantime, I wanted to get back to collecting great new tracks from the worlds of dream-pop, chillwave, indie, lo-fi, and shoegaze.

PERFECT MIDNIGHT WORLD // EPISODE EIGHT
After several setbacks recording this week’s podcast, I’ve decided to give in and just post the mixtape. I kept having to modify the podcast and when push came to shove, I simply did not have the time to keep adjusting. That’s the bad news. The good news is this is a rock solid collection of great new tracks. Almost all new. I use some old dream pop favorites to lead the mix out, but three quarters of the selections are new tracks from around the internet’s various music blogs.

PERFECT MIDNIGHT WORLD : EPISODE TWO // MAY 8TH, 2011
Lots of great stuff this week. Dug out some older tracks that I hadn’t recently given proper attention, so that’s fun to hear, but as usual, the vibe stays in the relaxed atmosphere. So new or old, you’re going to be in a consistently dreamy vibe. Oh, and the mixtape is back this week.
But first, check out the podcast and if you like what you hear, seek out the bands. Thanks for listening.

THE AFTERGLOW SHOW // EPISODE ONE // MAY 1ST, 2011
All right. Here is the first run at a new format for the Afterglow Mixtape Series. I went full on into podcast territory which has it’s upsides and its downsides. The good news is it’s more of a full mixtape. It’s more about the atmosphere and tone than previous versions and I’m really happy to be making something that’s much more akin to a real mixtape than just a collection of mp3s in a zip file. The bad news is that you have to listen to me talk about music for a couple of minutes spread out over the 90 minute duration of the show. Also, for some of you, i’m sure the lack of that zip file will be seen as a downer.
Think of this first episode as a beta test. I did my best to correct the levels and make sure it sounded passable, but I know there’s work to do. Another nice upside here is that there are chances for participation here in the podcast format in that you can email me requests or questions regarding the show. You can also take your ipod or iphone and record a voice note and email that to me for use in the show as well. Feel free. That could be a lot of fun.
