Bon Iver at  AIR Studios // 4AD/Jagjaguwar Session

Seeing Justin Vernon surrounded by his massive touring band, churning out the jams on an ever growing stage is a magic thing, but it doesn’t quite hold up to seeing him and Sean Carey in a studio, just re-interpreting their songs into small, subtle, gorgeous re-inventions. This is absolutely incredible and well worth your time if you’re the slightest fan of the artist.

Tracklist:

Hinnom, TX // Wash. // I Can’t Make You Love Me // Babys // Beth/Rest

“I Can’t Make You Love Me / Nick of Time” by Justin Vernon // Originally By Bonnie Raitt // In-Studio Performance

Well, wow. This is just something else. The studio version of this track is far and away the most popular post that I’ve ever made. So I hope that you all enjoy this half as much as you enjoyed that gorgeous take. It’s pretty easy to do so because it’s perfect. Justin Vernon deserves all of the Grammys and all of the moneys.

“I Can’t Make You Love Me // Nick of Time (Bonnie Raitt cover)” by Bon Iver // from the Calgary single

Wow. This studio version just gives me chills. So gorgeous. The take that was done on Jimmy Fallon a little while back was wonderful but seemed to lack the original melody a bit. Here, the track keeps it much closer to the original and it’s - just, wow.

“I Can’t Make You Love Me / Nick of Time” by Bon Iver // Originally by Bonnie Raitt

From P4K:

Last night, Bon Iver rolled through “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” for a performance and interview. Accompanied by Phil Cook of Megafaun on piano, Justin Vernon covered Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” with Raitt’s “Nick of Time”, along with Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You”, written by Leon Russell. As previously reported, the Bonnie Raitt covers are from the B-side to the new Bon Iver single “Calgary”. Vernon also sat down with Fallon to chat about the new Bon Iver album. The interview included this amazing sentence: “Man, there’s not enough Hornsby in my scene.”

You’re goddamn right there’s not enough Hornsby. Thankfully Vernon took care of that need for those of us who were feeling that absence. By the way, I can’t wait to get my paws on a studio version of this track. So damn good.
