“Caroline” by Sun Kil Moon & The Album Leaf // Perils From the Sea (Out 4.30.13 via Caldo Verde)
This collaboration between Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon) and Jimmy LeValle (The Album Leaf) continues to produce excellence in the lead up to the full album release. Since the announcement of the initial collaboration, there have been a couple of tracks find their way online, but it’s this one - “Caroline” - that really bears the fruit that I’ve been craving. On this track, everything just falls into place, both artists’ penchant for haunting, melancholic sounds line up perfectly to create a lovely, somber confessional of feeling that you don’t deserve the love that you receive. It’s right in both artists’ wheelhouse, but it’s still surprising how wonderfully they play off of each other. Highest recommendation.
