“Hypnotic Regression” by Girls Names // The New Life (Out 2.26.13 via Slumberland)
I was a big fan of Girls Names’ album, “Dead to Me”, but I must say that I am completely intrigued by the shift in the bands sound on the first two tracks released from the forthcoming sophomore album, “The New Life”. Our first taste was the seven and a half minute title track that played out like a prickly, post punk-ish Radiohead b-side - and now, we get this stellar blast of old school post punk (think early The Cure) by way of late 80’s modern college radio rock (think “Green” era R.E.M. and The Church’s “Starfish”). In a flash, “The New Life” is my most anticipated album of next year. I’m loving what this band has become in such a short period of time. Highest recommendation.
